FREE WORKSHOP for staff working in Aged Care approved provider services
If you are working in aged care and want to enhance your service provision to older people from culturally diverse backgrounds, then this workshop will give you an understanding of what it means to apply a culturally inclusive approach in your work and give you access to tools and resources to help you achieve this.
This workshop is funded through the Partners in Culturally Appropriate Care (PICAC) initiative of the Australian Government Department of Health.

New Management Training
If you work in a management capacity in a residential and home care aged services and you want to improve outcomes for consumers from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds this workshop is for you.
The Focus on Diversity: Delivering Services in a culturally inclusive way workshop is the result of a partnership between the Centre for Cultural Diversity in Ageing and the Australian Aged Care Quality Agency and will be run in each State over the coming months.

Out and About in Aged Care
Our training team continues to respond to requests for workshops from aged care services around Melbourne. In the past few months we have been invited to run workshops with staff at Sapphire Care (Hilltop), Lifeview Emerald Glades, Doutta Galla Aged Services, Sapphire care (Gables), Regis and Arcare Keysborough.

Free technology training in languages other than English
Seniors from non-English speaking backgrounds can access free technology classes at their local library in languages other than English starting from July 2016.
Please assist multicultural seniors and their associations to access the program.

Having a Say on the Future of Australia’s Aged Care Workforce
In April this year the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs held a public hearing of submissions to the Future of Australia’s aged care sector workforce inquiry. The Centre for Cultural Diversity in Ageing was one of the many delegates presenting submissions with a focus on the experiences of workers from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
Transcripts of the Centre’s submission, along with all others, is now publically available on the Senate of Australia website.

Multicultural Volunteering: Empowering People, Connecting Communities
Volunteering Victoria is holding this one day conference highlighting the vital role volunteering plays as a conduit for greater social inclusion, economic participation and integration.
This interactive event provides a platform for organisations to come together to explore topical issues and workshop practical solutions to strengthen volunteer management and build organisational capacity for inclusive and culturally aware volunteering programs.

LASA National Congress Addresses Diversity and Inclusion
Ljubica Petrov, Manager of the Centre for Cultural Diversity in Ageing, will be presenting as part of a panel of speakers at the upcoming LASA National Conference. The panel will be addressing the following themes:
Does catering for diversity increase choice or limit inclusion? How should age service providers strive to cater for the diverse needs of our citizens? Do specialised services increase people’s choices or do they create barriers to social inclusion by isolating communities? What impact – if any – will deregulation have on how we address diversity?

Save the Date
We are excited to announce the date for our next Ageing in Australia EXPO. It will be held on Saturday 29th April 2017 at the Melbourne Town Hall. The Ageing in Australia Expo is a unique Victorian event connecting older people and their families to aged care providers and support services. It provides an opportunity for people to find out about the ragne of support services available to them and their families as they age, and ask questions of aged care services relating to their care and wellbeing.

Free interpreting services for aged care services
Did you know that the Australian Government Department of Social Services provides funded interpreter services to all approved aged care services? All services have been supplied with a TIS National Client Code which must be quoted when accessing TIS National. If you don’t have one already contact the TIS National Client Liaison and Promotions Team on 1300 655 820 or the DSS Ageing and Diversity Section on (02) 6289 8903.
